Mel Rapozo for Kauai County Council
Councilmember Mel Rapozo has filed nomination papers for re-election to the Kauai County Council. Mel currently serves on various Council committees, and chairs the Public Safety and Environmental Services Committee. He also serves as the President of the Hawaii State Association of Counties.
He previously served on the County Council from 2002-2008, and is currently serving since 2010. He is known for his advocacy for the island’s senior citizens, military veterans, natural resources, small businesses, affordable housing, and the accountability of County leaders.
“I am excited to begin the campaign for re-election to the Kauai County Council. I realize that there are many pressing issues that face this County, and the current state of the economy will present many challenges going forward. Fiscal responsibility will have to be a priority for the next Council in order for the people of Kaua'i to be properly served.”
Mel has been critical of the budget process and is a firm believer of fiscal responsibility. He believes that the County needs to be more responsible with the people's money. He has also been actively working on the preservation of agricultural lands, shoreline protection, solid waste issues and public safety.
